Spring ... is a flowering tree, is a woman, is a dream ... she is transforming before us in a beautiful landscape. Her body is desire itself, with the rising energy of the new season. 'Twin trees' lie on either side of her on the horizon; this is something that I frequently add to my imagery to suggest love and companionship, the comfort of the beloved. I hadn't planned to put blossom in her hair but as I looked out of my studio window in early March, just when the drawing was nearing completion, I noticed the cherry tree was about to burst into bloom. I felt that was the perfect thing to complete the image - so I've chosen a strong cerise to balance the other bright colours. That tree in my garden was a gift to me 21 years ago when I was ill, and seeing it bloom every Spring, reminds me how lovely it is to be alive and hopeful. It's also a nod to a theme that I visit time and again - the Greek myth of Phyllis and her transformation into the almond tree.

Chalk pastels on Somerset 22 x 30" / 56 x 76cm textured paper with a deckle edge. The drawing is sprayed with professional quality pastel fixative. This artwork is available unframed; a large work like this will take pride of place in a room, so I believe my collectors prefer to match a frame to their existing artworks and decor. Chalk pastel needs to be kept from touching the glass; a good framer will advise. As well as close ups, I've shown the unframed drawing by my fireplace to show its size in situ, as well as my tree just about to bloom. Carefully packed, sent by Tracked Delivery. Certificate of Authenticity included.
