Tomas Castaño was born in Santander (Spain) in 1953. Since he was very young he showed a special predisposition towards drawing, but until the age of 17 he did not take the first brushes. Self-taught, Tomas has forged himself, based on tenacity and enthusiasm, opting for a style of realistic painting, which deals with composing compositions, well drawn, worrying about the composition and drawing, controlling the perspective and also the faculties that have led him to achieve a landscape status characterized by his architectural work.
His work is characterized by a serene and poetic realism, which translates the delight of the artist in the expression of streets, buildings and facades with character. His paintings capture the magic of the aesthetics of the old, and transmit all the warmth and humanization of environments not transformed by current life.
He has shown his work in group exhibitions in several countries such as Germany, Holland, USA, France, Sweden, Portugal, Romania, Ireland, England, Argentina, Japan, Italy, Korea, Taiwan and numerous solo and group exhibitions in Spanish territory. He has represented Cantabria in the Biennial of Florence in the 2005 edition. His work is recognized by the peculiar style and atmosphere that he creates in the finishing of his series of old taverns.
His work is included in the collections of the Hotel Central de Santander, Hotel Palacio del Mar in Santander, City Council of Castro Urdiales, City Hall of Villanueva de Villaescusa, Headquarters of CC.OO. of Santander and other private collections in Spain, Mexico, France, India, Puerto Rico, USA. and Costa Rica.
