Artist Statement of Marianne Quinzin

I am a French painter, I graduated from the National School of Fine Arts in Lyon and the School of Decorative Arts in Grenoble. I live and work in Rouen in Normandy. The associations of colours and natural elements are for me recurring sources of inspiration, nature and landscape being my favourite themes.

My artistic influences are varied and eclectic. The light in Turner's work, the power of colourful vibrations and the rigour of De Staël's compositions, the explosive freedom of Joan Mitchell, the technical mastery and scope of Gerhard Richter's work, sometimes figurative and sometimes abstract. The artistic movements that influence my painting are mainly abstract expressionism and lyrical abstraction, in particular the work of Zao Wou-Ki for the search for light, the play of transparency and opacity, the alternation of emptiness and fullness.
