A mixed media artwork on watercolour paper from Jayne Somogy's "Fantasy and Fairy Tales Collection" - "My version of the fairytale “The Princess and the Pea,” where a tiny pea is put under a pile of feather beds to see if the princess sleeping in the bed is sensitive enough to feel the pea, and thus a real princess and worthy of marrying the prince who is looking for a wife. The pea on my drawing is a sparkling olive green Swarovski rhinestone. This fairytale was the basis for a very funny Broadway musical entitled "Once Upon a Mattress" which starred Carol Burnett. Yours truly also appeared in a college production of this musical as "the French lady-in-waiting" -- wa-a-a-y back in 1966."
