"A wonderful Bird is a Pelican, His bill will hold more than his belican, He can take in his beak enough food enough for a week; But I'm damned if I see how the helican" Quote by Dixon Lanier Merritt.
Everyone loves Pelicans they are fascinatingly serene creatures who always appear to be self composed and quietly at ease with their world. Percival was created as a labor of love during Covid isolation in Southern Western Australia. To me he was the perfect subject to work with at that time. As I got to know Percival he represented a feeling of solo self sufficient confidence and his shadow reflects the mood of a surreal phase in our every changing world. My attachment to this painting became quite philosophical. Thank you to Cherilyn Corker for graciously providing the reference photo as inspiration for this oil painting."
