Anish Kapoor HOWL Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich

Anish Kapoor HOWL Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich

October 23, 2020

Anish Kapoor is one of the world's most influential contemporary sculptors. At the invitation of the Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlungen, the artist created a site-specific sculpture for the rotunda in the center of the Pinakothek der Moderne, which will be installed on September 16, 2020, exactly 18 years after the Pinakothek der Moderne opened. Kapoor's work will allow the viewer a new experience of the space and create a fixed point in the Munich art area for eleven months.

ANISH KAPOOR - HOWL

The artist is famous for his often monumental and mysterious objects that transcend the boundaries of architecture and sculpture. Kapoor's installation for the rotunda continues this exploration of the symbiotic relationship between building and object. The immense sculpture made of PVC will fill the rotunda with a monochrome hollow body, which challenges the physical-sensual perception of inside and outside, of materiality and immateriality. The work is at the same time an object and what Kapoor calls a “non-object”.
